Zaga beach: beautiful sandy beach with crystal clear water, at Koroni.

Koroni Town: 5Km by road or 3km by boat from Gargarou Beach. A pretty seaside village popular with tourists and full of tavernas, bars and patisseries.  The crusader castle is the focal point and the cobbled narrow streets and staircases lead up to the castle from the port.

Viros gorge: massive gorge from the peak of Mt. Taygettos to the sea, just north of Kardhamili. Stunning walks, with many churches and ruined villages along the way.

The Mani: wild and beautiful region of Greece, where the War of Independance started.

Pirgos Dyru: stunning underground caves in the Mani, just north of Areopolis.

Mystras: the last Byzantine stronghold, the town is perched on top of a mountain, was abandoned in the 1700s when the Ottomans finally captured the Mani. To get there you must drive through Kalamata following signs to Sparti and cross a magnificent mountain range.

Nestors Palace:The well preserved Mycenian Palace of Nestor 20km north of Pylos, it is remarkable in that it was only unearthed in 1965 and is therefore well documented and protected.

Methoni :15km from Finikouda and on the opposite end of the peninsula from Koroni sits the village of Methoni. It too has a crusader castle that the kids will love to explore. The castle sits out and becomes part of the bay. Methoni has a central square filled with Tavernas.

Finikouda:15Km from Xarokopio, this fishing village is renowned for its fish restaurants and for watersports.

Pylos Town:Up the coast from Methoni, Pylos is a bigger town with a large central square filled with cafes and restaurants, it boasts 2 castles. Pylos castle is one of the best preserved castles in Greece and has guided tours, it sits in the town and is easy to drive to.  Navarrino Castle protecting the other side of the bay is more of a ruin but is spectacularly placed , when the kids get tired of playing on ramparts they can play on the golden sands beach or in  horseshoe bay on the other side of the castle.
