Koroni is a lovely little Venetian town in Messinia, south western Peloponnese, mainland Greece. It’s approximately 43 kms. from the capital of the region, Kalamata, whose military airport accepts a limited number of charter flights from various countries. There is also a bus service from Kalamata to Koroni but to really explore this area, your own transport is desireable.
Koroni has a magnificent long, sandy beach to the south, a castle of it’s own and plenty of good eateries. The focal point of the town is the harbourside, where there is a good selection of cafes and restaurants. Sit awhile at one of these establishments and watch the world go by. You’ll soon begin to unwind as time becomes unimportant and you fall under the spell of Koroni. Before long, you’ll find it hard to drag yourself away.
Behind the waterfront, an interesting little back street runs parallel, full of quaint shops and more tavernas. You’ll also find at least three gyro souvlaki places, you cannot escape their wonderful aromas, you’re bound to be tempted!!
