Directions to Saintfridays from Kalamata

From Kalamata, follow signs for Messina , Athens and the Airport. Follow the dual carriage way until is comes into a built up area near the hospital, turn left at the traffic lights following signs for Messini, Pylos and the Airport. Pass the airport and follow directions below…..

Directions from Kalamata Airport

From Kalamata Airport turn right on to the main road. Go over a bridge and at the roundabout with Lidl / Carrefour (supermarkets) close by, take the last exit for Pylos / Koroni. Follow this road for nearly10 kms, and at the village of Rizomilos turn left following signs to Koroni (the main road continues on to Pylos). Koroni is clearly sign-posted at this junction in Rizomilos. Keep following signs for Koroni, through the villages of Petalidi, Kalamaki, Chrani, Episkopi, Ayios Andreas, Nea Koroni (this is not Koroni!) , Vounaria and Kompi. Then, eventually, you’ll be in the bigger village of Harokopio (spelt various Xarokopio, Charokopio).

Go through the village, round a sharp left hand bend, another left hand bend around the church and a sharp right hand bend will then take you along a narrow street with first shops and then houses closing in on both sides. When you can see that these buildings are coming to an end, there is a turning on the left signed posted Gargarou Beach. There are a lot of Villa to Let signs there, including our small white one (saintfridays). Go up this narrow village road, sharp left hander, sharp right hander, sharp left hander, along for a little past a big steel council bin, and sharp right hander and up past a cream coloured Church and a sharp left hand bend, now you are leaving the village and heading down towards the sea passed a few leafy and tree shrouded villas. The road continues gradually down and then at another church (Ayia Paraskevi, Saint Friday) it takes another sharp right and becomes steeper, suddenly you’ll see the sea again, and another big steel council bin on a sharp left hand corner. The next right turning is Saintfridays. Look for the white sign, then follow the track for 100m and you have arrived.

Directions to Saintfridays from Athens

From Athens (Venizelos) airport come out onto the motorway (which makes a sharp “U” turn) head for Elefsina and Korinthos on the E94. Stay on this motorway heading for Korinthos (after you pass the suburb Elefsina), but don’t turn off for Korinthos when you reach it. Just after the exit for Korinthos the motorway splits for Patra and Tripoli / Nafplio (& Kalamata), head for Tripoli / Nafplio / Kalamata, on the E94. Once on this motorway ignore signs for Nafplio and head for Tripoli and Kalamata. Head down to Tripoli on the E65 and then follow signs for  Kalamata. The highway ends just before Kalamata at Messini, which is where you need to go anyway. Come off the highway here and turn right for Pylos and Kalamata airport at the round-about at the end of this highway slip road. Pass Kalamat airport on your right, go over a bridge and at the roundabout with Lidl / Champion (supermarkets) close by, take the last exit for Pylos / Koroni. Follow this road for nearly10 kms, and at the village of Rizomilos turn left following signs for Koroni . (the main road continues on to Pylos). Koroni is clearly sign-posted at this junction in Rizomilos.Keep following signs for Koroni, through the villages of Petalidi, Kalamaki, Chrani, Episkopi, Ayios Andreas, Nea Koroni (this is not Koroni!), Vounaria and Kompi. Then, eventually, you’ll be in the bigger village of Harokopio.

Go through the village, round a sharp left hand bend, another left hand bend around the church and a sharp right hand bend will then take you along a narrow street with first shops and the houses closing in on both sides. When you can see that these buildings are coming to an end, there is a turning on the left signed posted Gargarou Beach. There are a lot of signs there, including ours ( www.saintfridays.com ), most or all advertise villas to let. The next right turning is Saint Fridays, look for the white sign, follow the track for 100m and you have arrived.

Directions to Saintfridays from Patras

(the assumption here is that you’re coming from the port, but if from the airport - Araxos - you are already well on the way, just follow signs to Prygos and then as below).

From the port of Patras turn right and follow the coast road following signs for Prygos. As you go along this road with the sea at your right, you will see the signs for the Athens motorway (highway): the National Road (variously signposted ‘Ethniki dromos’ - ‘Εθνικη δρομος’ - or ‘Neos Ethniki dromos’ - ‘Νέος Εθνικη δρομος’. Don’t worry if miss the first one there will be another. When you are on the highway just follow it to Prygos (or if you miss the highway the old road to Prygos - and also don't worry because the motorway runs out pretty soon). It rapidly becomes not much of a motorway, just a modern road with a hard shoulder and, strangely, with a slower car or a slower driving style, you should use the hard shoulder, particularly if there is something behind you. (Slower vehicles are expected to use the hard shoulder to allow faster vehicles to over-take - weird I know). Be alert as you close in on Prygos, the road you are on by-passes the town and you should be  following signs to Kyparisia and Olympia  so do not get swept into Prygos, more importantly and less easily avoided, is to not to get swept along by the new road all the way up to ancient Olympia (unless you want to go there), but instead follow signs for Kyparisia. You will take one of two right turns just after Prygos signposted Kyparisia / Kalamata and you will think you have gone wrong because the road seems so small, potholed and arbitrary. The best one is the second right turn for Kyparisia, which takes you over the railway and well beyond the labyrinth of Prygos. This will take you from the Prygos by-pass (which you wanted to be on) to the old coast road that you left behind some 100km ago in Patras. Keep heading towards Kyparisia but just before Kyparisia, at the village of Kalo Nero, turn left following signs for Kalamata.

(Basically, as far as Kalo Nero and all the way from Patras, if the sea is on your right you have not gone far wrong. A slower but even more scenic route may be to continue to keep the sea on your right all the way to saintfridays, going through Kyparisia and following signs first for Gargalianoi - where former US President Nixon’s VP Spiro Agnew came from - and then signs for Pylos - where Greek independence was finally effectively achieved, with the help of a British gunhoe mistake and the presence of the French and Russian Navies - but I won’t confuse things too much by going into any more detail on that here.)

Having turned left at Kalo Nero, head for Kalamata, this route takes you over some hills and finally allows you turn right  towards Kalamata on the main road Athens / Kalamata Road.  The easiest thing to do here is, about 5 kms before you get to Kalamata, just after Kalamata Hospital, turn right for Pylos and Messini (Kalamata) airport (sign posted).

Pass the (2001 plane spotting) airport on your right and go over a bridge and at the round-a-bout with Lidl / Champion (Carrefour) supermarkets close by, take the last exit for Pylos / Koroni. Follow this road for nearly10 kms, past orange groves and orange sellers, and at the village of Rizomilos the road will continue on to Pylos, but you need to turn left, like most of other traffic, for Koroni. Koroni is clearly sign-posted at this junction, which is at the centre of this tiny village which has an electrical shop at the junction run by a nice guy called George.

Keep following signs for Koroni, through the villages of Petalidi, Kalamaki, Chrani, Episkopi, Ayios Andreas, Nea Koroni, Vounaria and Kompi. Then you’ll be in the bigger village of Charokopio (bigger than all other than Petalidi).

Go through the village of Charokopio, round a sharp left hand bend, another left hand bend around the church and a sharp right hand bend will then take you along a narrow street and out of the village, with first shops and then houses closing in on both sides. When you can see that these buildings are coming to an end, there is a turning on the left signposted Gargarou Beach. There are a lot of signs there, many advertise villas to let, including our white saintfridays sign. Go up this narrow village road, sharp left hander, sharp right hander, sharp left hander, along for a little past a big steel council bin, and sharp right hander and up past a cream coloured Church and a sharp left hand bend, now you are leaving the village and heading down towards the sea, past a few leafy and tree shrouded villas.

The road continues gradually down and then at another church (Ayia Paraskevi, Saint Friday) it takes another sharp right and becomes steeper and suddenly you’ll see the sea again, and another big steel council bin on a sharp left hand corner, next right turning, through the olive groves, and again sign posted saintfridays, is where we are.
